About Joshua Pearl

After conservatory training as a classical pianist, I worked 25 years as a professional musician, with a wide array of jobs, including Broadway orchestra musician in New York City, dance accompanist and composer in Kyoto, Japan, and record producer in Woodstock, NY. I have been fortunate to study and work with a wide range of renowned artists and musicians.

In 2014, I was diagnosed with Pemphigus Vulgaris, a rare, life-threatening autoimmune skin disease. For over two years, I lived through an odyssey which involved constant physical pain. As part of my coping and recovery, I made music in my studio daily, allowing the sounds and expressions brought forth by my suffering to serve as a type of personalized medicine, changing and adapting with the changes I was experiencing in my body.

This experience forever changed the way I relate to music and as soon as I was in remission, I resolved to become a music therapist. I received my clinical training, became certified and licensed to practice as an MT-BC.

In addition to my private practice in my north Portland studio, I currently serve as the president of the Oregon Association for Music Therapy and the owner of the Music Therapy Center for Psychedelic Integration.
